At the center of the enchanting rolling hills, lived a shepherd boy. His existence was essentially untarnished, simple, and honest. His main role was essentially to tend to his flock of rams.

Their gentle baas and the rustling of the gales through the lone tree on the peak were his main co-dwellers. here Day upon day, watching over his charges inculcated in him a sense of tranquil contentment.

But, there were occasional moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would yearn for fellowship. During one such occasion from sheer tedium, the shepherd boy devised a naughty scheme.

Tales of wolves prowling on sheep had long been circulating in the town. So, the boy chose to exploit this fear and played a prank on the villagers.

One afternoon he ran into the village yelling “Wolf! There is a wolf preying on my sheep!” The scared villagers ran up the hills to help but found no wolf.

The boy giggled at the dilemma on their faces. This trick continued for a few more days. But, one day, a real wolf actually attack the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy raced for help, screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one came.

Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but could rescue only few of his flock. Devastated, he returned to the village only to receive a reprimand on honesty and the results of dishonesty.

His tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the significance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the risks of crying wolf. Moreover, it highlights how trust once broken, is tough to regain. It's a story as appropriate today as it was anciently.
